Macs are not immune to malware threats, and luckily nervous Mac owners looking for antivirus protection have quite a few choices. Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security for Mac ($49.95 direct) offers full-scale protection against viruses, Trojans, spyware, and other types of malware. It can steer users away from dangerous or fraudulent websites, and it even includes a simple parental control system.
At a minimum, a Mac antivirus must scan and remove malicious programs on demand. Some, including Kaspersky Virus Scanner (for Mac) ($9.99 direct) and Norton's iAntivirus (Free), stop there. Trend Micro adds real-time protection against incoming threats, eliminating malware before it can launch.
It tracks your Git working copies and updates the icon overlays automatically, giving you visual feedback of the current state of your working copies. Git update version. In a few steps, you can start using SnailGit easily: • Enable 'SnailGit Extension' in 'System Preferences » Extensions'. SnailGit also adds icon overlays to your Git working copies in Finder.
The program's straightforward main window includes two big buttons, one to launch a scan and another to check for updates. The update button isn't strictly necessary, as the product keeps itself updated automatically. From this main window you can also enable or disable Web threat detection, real-time protection, and automatic updates.
As with most antivirus programs, you can choose between a full scan of the entire system and a smart scan that looks specifically at known malware hangouts. There's also an option to scan any folder or file. Trend Micro has additional options of scan exclusion to choose files, folders, or processes for a scan to skip.
Web Filtering Trend Micro protects against Web threats, warning users who inadvertently try to visit malicious or fraudulent sites. A similar feature in avast! Free Antivirus for Mac (Free) rates Web sites by reputation. VirusBarrier 2013 ($39.99 direct) offers also protection against phishing and malicious sites, and adds protection against such Web threats as cross-site scripting attacks, drive-by downloads, and malicious JavaScript.
The Trend Micro Smart Protection Network checks over 50 million IP addresses daily to identify dangerous ones. Trend Micro's three levels of Web protection rely on this network to identify bad sites. At the Low level, it will only block sites that have been confirmed as fraudulent or malicious. At the High level it blocks anything suspicious, even if it hasn't been confirmed. At the in-between Normal level it strikes a balance, blocking dangerous sites without 'aggressively blocking minor security risks.'
Trend Micro can manage your privacy settings in Facebook to limit access to personal data and identifies suspicious links on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. The software also blocks viruses, malware, and harmful links shared through email and instant messaging.
If children use the Mac you may want to enable content filtering. You can choose to block sites in a custom collection of categories, or just go for one of the three predefined profiles: Child, Teenager, or Mature Teenager. Parental control settings are locked using the Mac Admin password, so the kids can't just turn it off.
Don't worry about installing a plug-in for Safari or Firefox. Trend Micro's core security engine filters HTTP traffic directly, independent of the browser used.
It is easy to upgrade the antivirus software via the Trend Micro website. Additionally, it has client reporting and features a Trend Micro toolbar. Trend Micro can also debug log uploads and export scan logs.
Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security for Mac operates on systems OSX 10.5 and higher and is working on supporting OSX 10.9. It can be purchased directly from Trend Micro or from selected retailers. A current promotion at the Trend Micro website lets you purchase this $49.95 product for $29.95.

Helps kids control how much private and personal data is exposed online, optimizes computer performance and blocks viruses and dangerous links
Trend Micro Internet Security is an antivirus tool that aims to protect your files, folders, and system information from malicious activity. Use this kind of software anytime you are connected to the Internet, and you should be safe.
The installation process is simple, during which the software takes its time to verify system compatibility. The user interface is very appealing and easy to navigate through. But if you find something difficult to understand, make sure to check out the help file.
In the main window you can view the current status of Trend Micro Internet Security, security summary (any kind of web threats), parental controls, and subscription date.
Parental Controls is an option that allows you to set up separate Windows user accounts with limitations for children. You can manually or automatically (according to the child's age) disable their access to various types of online content.
Scanning can be done either quick, full, or custom. A full scan takes a long while to complete, but the antivirus tool seems to work very thorough. In our case, it found some interesting “enemies” we didn't even know about, and removed them.
Plus, you can configure the software to scan for threats when opening, saving, or downloading files, to schedule a scan, and others. CPU and memory resources are fairly used, so your computer shouldn't have any problems running it.
All in all, this is a great piece of software to have at your disposal. We especially liked the many features found in Parental Control.
